earth hour 2008
At 8pm on the 29 March, 2008, millions of people in some of the world’s major capital cities, including Copenhagen, Toronto, Chicago, Melbourne, Brisbane, Tel Aviv and Manila will unite and switch off for Earth Hour.
This year Singapore will be part of this global effort organized by the WWF to attempt at making a statement in energy conservation. Apparently Sydney did it in a big way in 2007 by going as far as switching off all the lights on the Sydney Harbor Bridge for 1 hour! The efforts in 1 hour on 1 day reduced Sydney’s energy consumption by 10.2% for one hour, which is the equivalent effect of taking 48,000 cars off the road for one hour.
check out the web and lets do our part too !!!! ^__^

1) Join a lights out party! There are several held around Singapore. Turn off all the lights in your house, grab your family and head on down to these venues to join in the fun. An hour away from the computer is an hour with humanity!
2) Go for a night walk There are several nature areas and parks in Singapore where you can go for a nice stroll with your family, children, friends or partners. Quite romantic! How about just take advantage of all the street lights we have and read a book in the void deck for an hour while enjoying the night breeze?
3) Stargazing Enjoy the darkness and admire the stars with a group that has organized a stargazing session at the field in front of Chinese Garden.
4) Go camping! Grab your children and family and go on an adventure camping on the beach! There are many islands and beaches in Singapore where you can camp at for free. If not camping, maybe you can grab a big group of friends and have a BBQ or campfire on the beach while getting them to turn off all the lights in their homes!

If
"If I had the influence with the good fairy who is supposed to preside over
the christening of all children, I should ask that her gift to each child in
the world be a sense of wonder so indestructible that it would last
throughout life, an unfailing antidote against the boredom and
disenchantment of later years, sterile preoccupations with things that are
artificial, the alienation from the sources of our strength."
- Rachel Carson, *The Sense of Wonder*

hidden meanings
PS: something interesting that i stumbled on today *smile* a site that tells you names meanings ....
What Ayako Means |
You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection. You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive. You have the classic "Type A" personality. You are a free spirit, and you resent anyone who tries to fence you in. You are unpredictable, adventurous, and always a little surprising. You may miss out by not settling down, but you're too busy having fun to care. You are a seeker of knowledge, and you have learned many things in your life. You are also a keeper of knowledge - meaning you don't spill secrets or spread gossip. People sometimes think you're snobby or aloof, but you're just too deep in thought to pay attention to them. You are well rounded, with a complete perspective on life. You are solid and dependable. You are loyal, and people can count on you. At times, you can be a bit too serious. You tend to put too much pressure on yourself. |
japanese name ~__^
sometime back Ian and Cindy was wondering how do i write my characters of my name ..
heheeh here it is :
Most Japanese names are written in kanji, though some names are written in hiragana or katakana. Hiragana are mainly used for girl's name because of its soft impression. Since there are thousands of kanji to choose from, even the same name usually can be written in many different kanji combinations.
AYA 彩, 綾 f JapaneseFrom Japanese 彩 "colour" or 綾 "design". combined with 子 (ko) "child". "Ko" is often used for the end of female names, and it means "a child".
and there you go ..... ayako = design child * hahahahhah :P *
but i most remembered that when i was a child ... when i asked what does my name means ... they will always tell me that it means born out of love .
White Day 14th MArch
There is a rather strange Japanese custom on March 14th, one-month after Valentine’s Day .
It is called “White Day” and it is the day that a man who has received a gift from a woman on Valentine’s Day gives her a gift in return.
I think the idea is very Japanese. By the way, what would be a nice gift for women?
According to research, the most popular item on White Day is a necklace. A ring, a handkerchief, a bouquet of flowers and a stuffed animal are among the top five.
I guess there is something universal about catching a woman’s heart.
However, some might be puzzled about a handkerchief being ranked so high, but there are so many beautiful handkerchiefs available in Japan and Japanese women like to collect them.

amazing enchanting creations
The scientific name for the firefly is Lampyridae, but they are commonly called fireflies, lightning bugs, or glow worms. Their most notable characteristic is their ability to produce bioluminescence (a "cold light") to attract mates or prey. There are more than 2000 species of fireflies, mostly found in temperate and tropical environments around the world.
Fireflies were a part of ancient Mayan mythology, often being associated with the stars. In East Asia, the ancient Chinese sometimes captured fireflies in transparent containers and used them as lanterns. Some species of the Luciola genus rival the famous sakura cherry blossums in terms of their importance in Japanese culture and folklore.
our trip to see the fireflies at night was totally "out of the world" for me ! so beautifully shining and binking its light away in the total darkness in and out of the mangrove swamps ..... its totally unbelievable to see them all clustered together shining away ...... just so surreal and enchanting faery-like wonderland .......
i will never forget the first firefly that landed right on my palm.....its like wowwww so magickal and so blissful i was when that happened ... at some point of the journey my whole heart just felt like so full.......so emotional when i saw them ....... theres no words at all for me to describe how i felt then at the moment of time ...
if theres ever a chance....i'll definitely go back again ....... just to see the fireflies faerieland !
*smile* i will never forget that sight ..... ^__^

this spring ...
Each year, yellow makes an appearance, brightening up a look here or there but rarely getting the center-stage attention it deserves. This spring, that’s all changing because the sunny hue is a must-have in its own right.
Yellow is the perfect complement to sun-kissed skin, but if you prefer to ease into this color trend, start small in the world of accessories. Throw a sunny tote over your shoulder for brunch with the girls, or pair that flirty little dress with yellow sandals or flats.
Once you’ve had a taste, branch out. Top crisp white denim with an airy yellow blouse, or dive into a goldenrod sundress. We think you’ll like it.
The lemon tint has been neglected long enough. Spring 2008 loves it in every shade, so find your favorite and add a little sunshine to your life.
